Queensland Water Commission
CP&G Unit
In the context of having just completed the Commission's Strategic Plan 2008-12, we started to make preparations for our team's operational planning including our risk management and budgeting. In doing so we also realised it was a great opportunity for the team to get to know each other better. We'd had a number of staff changes and the arrival of new people within the team. We knew we wanted to do something interesting in this context. We wanted to explore and investigate some of the issues more creatively and openly.
We discussed the possibilities with Cathryn from Maverick Minds and Shari from Renaissance Rhythms. They offered great advice in helping us to think about how we could shape a planning day and address what we needed to by incorporating a range of creative based processes into our work. It was a collaborative process in how we planned and ran the day.
The day itself was productive and we also had some fun. The written comments received by staff who participated indicated they enjoyed it and certainly got something out of it. There were a number of comments made on the day which indicated as such. The range and combination of art and music processes allowed us to be more open-minded and to discuss things in different ways. The work we did on the day is being put to good use and will be used for further business development. The product outcome from the day has been very valuable and we also have artwork that we produced which now features in our office space. That is a great reminder of what we are able to achieve as a team of people.
The experience has motivated and focused us as a team. It's provided a great foundation for us to consider our work in a practical and creative way.
